Produced by LCO:
De Zware Voet (police series) For 3 seasons LCO--in co-production with STP--produced the very successful police series De Zware Voet. It was one of the most talked about television series at that time and landed 3rd place in the ratings in 2001. The program was constructed around an anonymous police vehicle ("De Volvo"), which was equipped with four fixed cameras, a speed meter, one mobile cameraman, a director, and two police officers. The result? Speedy pursuits and hilarious traffic violations. But the program also informed the public about the dos-and-don'ts of traffic through the eyes of the law. Instead of bringing yet another impersonal pursuit program, LCO Productions concentrated the on the reaction of the law breakers and their discussions with law enforcement. And, LCO focused a lot on a high quality acquisition; it was filmed and edited like a good drama, but still preserved the reality of the situation. The re-runs of the episodes aired for another 3 years and sometimes got higher ratings than newer shows on the network.
Over the last 12 years, Jan Leyssens directed (and sometimes produced, edited, and filmed) more than 3000 hours of primetime television in Belgium and Holland. Here are a few samples of this work:
Undercover (investigative journalism series; VTM, 2001) This was by no doubt the most talked about TV series of the season. Armed with hidden cameras, a big budget, and top lawyers, our investigators went underground worldwide (Belgium, Holland, England, Africa and Eastern Europe) to answer questions like: how easy is it to buy 1 kilogram of hash, 100 grams of coke, 1000 ecstasy pills, a new unmarked firearm, bombs, a fake passport, an illegal endangered animal. The program also uncovered an illegal waste industry, illegal hunting, and tested how easy it was to bring a bomb on board of an airplane with a fake passport pre-9/11.

Sterren en Kometen (humor series; VTM, 2001) This groundbreaking show business program ran for three successful seasons and, at the time, was unlike anything seen before. Armed with the most hilarious ideas and extreme challenges, Host Luc Alloo set off with his daily video diary to interview local and international celebrities and cover news and show business events. Rock and roll television!

Jambers & Jambers Magazine (documentary series; VTM, 1998 - 2000) Top rated, groundbreaking, human interest show in Belgium and Holland. Host Paul Jambers interviews people with extreme lifestyles in a patented cinema verite style. The themes are universal, the settings are Flemish. It opens up your view on a world that is just a little bit different. Whether the theme is poverty, prostitution, or mistresses, the viewer will always identify with the witness--because the feelings in each testimony are fundamentally human.
